the beautiful ladies

.

Rosamund Pike

I don’t like the matchy matchy vibe, but Rosamund Pike’s team nailed this look by putting her in this crimson Givenchy dress. She is definitely my number one pick.

Emma Stone

I love how Emma Stone is such a fashion chameleon. She looks so good in this beautiful beaded Elie Saab Haute Couture lime cordial green/chartreuse gown.

Scarlett Johanson

Scarlett Johanson looks fiercely elegant in this emerald green curve-hugging V-neck dress by Versace.

J Lo

The nude tone of this beautifully beaded whismical Elie Saab gown is clearly working for Ms Lopez.

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick’s Thakoon dress is a breath of fresh air. The soft coral is amazing against her alabaster skin.

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon played it safe in this bold black-and-white Tom Ford Gown, but she looks beautiful.

the eye candy

 Adam Levine

Hi Adam Levine (in Giorgio Armani)! Not too sure if I’m loving Behati’s ensemble though …

Steve Carell

Is that Steve Carell? Grrrr.

The wtf’s

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman’s (Louis Vuitton) dress looks like it was made from very cheap wrapping paper gift, stuck together with red duct tape. And then what is going on with Keith Urban’s hair? It also looks like he’s wearing some of Nicci’s makeup.

Jared Leto

Jared Leto looked weird in this 1970’s matric dance outfit consisting of a powder blue Givenchy suit and fugly white shoes.

Solange Knowles

Known for her different sense of style, this Christian Siriano crepe cape top made Solange Knowles look like she was wearing the red carpet. It did nothing for her figure either.

Kiera Knightley

I have no words for this worded, floaty Valentino creation.

Chloe Moretz

Chloe Moretz wore a blanket-like Miu Miu dress with pockets so big, it looked like there was room for one more in her dress.

No seriously, have a look from this angle:

So weird.

Who were your best dressed and wtf’s?

I have only recently started wearing bold and bright colours and this is thanks to Tom Ford (Violet Fatale, here’s looking at you!). I have slowly been making my way through some nice and some not so nice lipsticks in my new-found love of seriously courageous lip colour. An amazing discovery I recently made comes in the form of YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres in colour 10 Rouge Philtre.

A revolutionary new lip product! Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain for a truly innovative lip product. A lightweight texture that immediately melts onto lips. Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain delivers intense glossy colour for an extremely long lasting new kind of shine. The applicator’s unique slanted tip and short soft bristles allow for flawless application with perfect precision.”

“This is not about an ordinary orchid, it’s about something a little more strange and rare. I wanted the blackest orchid, and those aren’t easy to find.” Tom Ford

Recently I discovered Black Orchid by Tom Ford. It was lust at first smell. It’s a shockingly wonderful, beautiful, mysterious scent that lasts forever on your skin.

Black Orchid starts off with a bang – it’s a statement fragrance, make no mistake about it. There is citrus, lots of sugar, heady floral notes, and some jammy fruit. Tempering all of that is a strong undertone of something earthy and dark (the black truffle accord, presumably). As it dries down, the earthy-dark stuff fades, the vanilla steps up and the florals turn creamy and smooth. For me, this is when the fragrance becomes utterly captivating. The packaging only adds to the glamour with the retro-glam fluted black glass bottle complete with an engraved metal plate.

To me, Black Orchid is a deep, sensual, rich, luxurious fragrance. It’s quite intense and heavy, making it perfect for evenings out or the colder months. I normally spray it on my hair or scarf for more staying power.

Notes: Bergamot, Citrus, Mandarin, Black Gardenia, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Lotus Wood, Orchid, Spicy Floral Accord, Orchid (Tom Ford Black Accord), Patchouli, Sandalwood, Incense, Vanilla.

Available from Stuttafords Sandton and Stuttafords Canal Walk at R730 for 30ml, R1025 for 50ml and R1425 for 100ml

I am seriously loving jumpsuits at the moment. They provide the same kind of easy dressing that a dress gives you (where you don’t have to agonise over what top to pair with your bottoms), and lend an element of cool, sophisticated chic to your look. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, they come with pockets! Is it weird that I love pockets so much? They also work well for almost any occasion. Just be sure to get one that flatters your body – the waist part should be at just the right spot on your body. Also, jumpsuits in stretch cotton material aren’t very flattering and tend to make you look bulkier, so choose polyester blends instead.

What are you loving lately?

When Christmas time arrives, I often struggle with buying gifts for my loved ones. My mom seems to have everything she needs, and my sister is into practical items because she’s a stay-at-home mom. I don’t think she would see the value in a pair of gorgeous heels or a beautiful cerise silk top. I know I can always build on what they currently love and gift them something similar, or I can ask them directly what they want. This year I’m doing a bit of both. For the person who has everything, I don’t think you can’t go wrong with these items:
