The gorgeous French brand Payot is back in South Africa, and they’ve relaunched with a neat concept.

In the 1920’s, founder of Payot Paris, Dr Nadia Payot created her first products.  Convinced that these products alone were not enough, she developed her first beauty recommendations and exercises and started performing facial exercises on her clients.

The Gym Beauté Payot includes 11 movements which are said to uplift features and smoothe out wrinkles. And the best part? They’re quick and easy and you don’t have to put on your gym gear!

Check out the Beauty Gym:

Cleanse with LES DEMAQUILLANTES

A comprehensive cleansing range, this facial collection is complete with five options from cleansing gels, to a toner and of course make up removers.

All skin types are considered. There’s both a gel (for for oilier skin types) as well as comforting milk cleanser (offering added hydration). For a radiance boost, reach for Lotion Tonique Reveil with its raspberry extracts, and to whisk away make up in seconds, there are two options of makeup removers. Eau Micellaire Express is a refreshing make-up removing water for face and eyes, while Demaquillant Instantane Yeux is a dual-textured make up remover that sweeps away stubborn waterproof products.

Purify with PATE GRISE

This heritage range developed by Nadia Payot lives on and still thoroughly treats and cares for blemished skins almost 70 years since formulation. At its heart is Pate Grise Special Edition, and it’s a miracle potion – especially if an acne spot needs quick healing. An emergency ointment that’s suitable for all skin types, it works overnight to help mature a blemish, meaning it won’t linger on your skin. To compliment the range, the Pate Grise Speciale 5 (a drying and purifying gel) is used on mature blemishes, as well as the Pate Grise Eau Purifiante (a Perfection two-phase lotion) for all-over complexion use, meaning you have a comprehensive treatment plan. And because Payot understands women with blemished skins want to use a high-coverage concealer with treatment benefits, the Stick Couvrant Pate Gris means a dose of shale extract (an ingredient in the famous Pate Grise) upon application. Two hydrating products (oily skin needs to be perfectly moisturised too) complete the range.

Quench thirst with HYDRA24+

The best treatment products for skin that needs hydrations, irrespective of its type, comes in the forms of fresh-feel, moisture- plumping creams that are light to the touch. Available in a selection of textures that are perfect for your skin type, Hydra24+ is the answer for women prone to taught-feeling and hydration-poor skin. A daily-use eye care treatment (Hydra24+ Regard Glacon) and a super-hydrating and comforting mask (Hydra24+ Baum en Masque) are essential to prevent water loss.

Illuminate with MY PAYOT

Straightforward, yet hard-working, the collection consists of day, night and eye care creams to increase skin’s radiance for a glow that’s more gorgeous by the day thanks to power ingredients like super fruit extracts.

Lift with LES ELIXIRS

Slack skin is a big issue for South African women as loss of firmness doesn’t target a specific skin concern, type or tone. It’s simply an ageing issue. This targeted treatment (laced with argan extract) for mature skins with decreased firmness and bounce, is a smart serum-cream and works by intercellular communication.

Smooth wrinkles with TECHNI LISS

No matter where you are on your anti-ageing journey, Payot has specific anti-wrinkle care products to fit your skin’s treatment needs. Starting from first wrinkles (Techni Liss First) through to deep wrinkles (Techni Liss Deep), the range has been specifically created to manage wrinkles as they appear and set in, dealing with them at every stage. Carefully considered ingredient-rich products are key to the range, like Techni Liss Booster, packed with hyaluronic acid that’s found naturally in skin to pep up vital collagen.

Sculpt with PERFORM LIFT

Stave off in-clinic anti-aging procedures with a skin remod- eling range to help to re-contour face, neck and décolleté. As the skin on your neck is a telltale sign of aging, Perform Sculpt Roll-On is an award-winning modelling gel that uses peptides to help muscles support this fragile area once more. A day and night cream as well as an eye treatment means the range is complete for a full offering that cares for mature women skins.

Multitask with SUMPREME JEUNESSE

The era of global anti-aging treatments – those that work really hard to perform many skin care tasks in one applica- tion – has been with us for years. Payot has worked tire- lessly to ensure the formulation of Supreme Jeunesse Con- centrate is the of the utmost advanced, making this serum the solution to your skin’s total health and anti-aging needs.

UV protect with LES SOLAIRES

As South Africa as the second highest UV concentration in the world, Payot understands it needs to offer all South Afri- can women a full and high factor sun screen range. The Les Solaires Sun Sensi Crème Visage come in both a SPF 30 and 50+ variety.

You can find Payot at selected Dis-Chem and independent pharmacies nationwide. Go forth and explore! And don’t forget to do your exercises.

I remember my mom telling me that you can always look at a lady’s hands to tell her real age. She might have beautiful facial skin, but her hands are a more accurate depiction. According to a top Hollywood dermatologist, the most common laser procedures include skin rejuvenation of the face, neck, chest, and hands. Because I want to live a laser-free life as much as possible, I made it my mission to find a cream especially formulated for hands, containing SPF. Sure, I could just wear gloves like my client’s mother (who wore gloves all year round come rain or blistering heat, and who has the most beautiful, ageless hands) or use actual SPF. But I wanted a non-greasy, small tube that I could pop in my bag. After many hours at the mall and much googling, I found the ONE.

Bionike

Bionike is an Italian brand, founded in Milan in the 1930’s as a pharmaceutical company. They make treatments for sensitive, allergic and highly-reactive skin. During my travels to Italy I saw Bionike products in every pharmacy, and I figured that if they’re trusted by Italians, who are known for their proclivity for quality, they’re good enough for me!

Bionike B-Lucent Anti-Dark Spots Hand Cream SPF 20 claims to be a richly textured, yet easily absorbed skin protector that makes skin softer. It claims that daily use helps to reduce the number and extension of dark spots and prevents their formation. It is fragrance, preservative and gluten free.

k

Does it live up to its claims?

This hand cream is richly textured, easily absorbed offers protection from the sun. I have one spot on my hand that I don’t like, and I feel that this cream keeps it in check. The first time I bought a tube, the saleslady told me that even when I’m not in the sun, I can use it as a treatment. I absolutely love Bionike’s Skin Evening Hand Cream, and I’m already on my third tube.

I’m super into beauty hacks and I always recommend to my clients that if you only have 3 minutes to get ready, the four items you really need are blush (or bronzer for those who don’t like actual colour but want something to define your cheeksmascara, a tinted or clear eyebrow gel and a lip gloss. Now, this can vary according to what you most need and your four things could include a bit of concealer, but the combinations basically revolve around the essential items I’ve just mentioned. With your eyes, lips and cheeks defined, your look is complete.

Finding most makeup essentials is usually a breeze for me but for some reason, finding a blush that suits me induces a Bermuda Triangle-like state. They’re either too sparkly or too pink or too orange and then I just get fed up and leave whichever makeup counter I’m at. Blush is not something I like to dabble in. Lipsticks – any day. Bronzer – no problem. Blush – eeeeeek!

With the launch of their new Face Studio blushes, Maybelline have set my heart at ease and I no longer feel anxious around blush. Because of the extensive range of (perfect) colours available, I have found a new friend that I’m sticking to.

I got 5 colours, and I’m mesmerized by just how pretty they are. Coral Fever 90 is a beautiful, iridescent, golden, spicy orange shade, Peach Pop 100 is a matte melon orange shade, Cosmopolitan 60 is a fun, matte, creamy peach shade, Rose Madison 70 is a very cool toned, pretty pink and Dare to Pink 80 is a vibrant, intense rosy pink. The shades range from soft and demure to bold and bright, so there’s something for everyone and every skin tone.

BLUSH Dare to Pink

Besides being gorgeous, they wake the skin up without feeling too loud or too bright. The colours are are really nicely pigmented and they stay true and don’t oxidise. The colour payoff is wonderful, and is comparable to my higher-end blushes. They last well, with an average 6-7 hours before needing a touch up. Overall, I love everything about these blushes, especially the healthy glow they produce.

The blushes come in sleek, black, slide-open containers that click neatly into place when you’re done. The packaging can be quite irritating, especially on days where you’re busy thinking about other things and forget how to open them. I’m interested to see how well this new packaging holds up. In my experience, drugstore brands tend to skimp on packaging, and with use, all my drugstore products (containers) inevitably break.

You can get your hands on these new babies at Dis-Chem, Clicks, Edgars, Pick n PayFoschini stores for R99,95.

Winter and purple just go together. Purple is a warming, cozy, opulent colour that can hold its own and add richness and depth to winter neutrals. This winter, there’s a focus on mauve, amethyst and deep berry tones. Currently, I’m loving a strong purple matte lip. Whatever your fancy, here’s some purple inspiration and every makeup product you could wish for in this heady hue.

1. Palladio Butter Me Up Sheer Colour Balm in Sugar Plum is a luscious, buttery lip balm that moisturizes, protects, and smoothes lips. It’s perfect for a hint of colour but can be built up to a stronger colour. Available from Dis-Chem for R95.

2. Palladio’s Matte Shadow Duo in 5th Avenue is the perfect way to create a subtle violet smoky eye. Use the colours you would usually use for a smoky eye (blacks and browns) and then use the darker purple under your lash line and the lighter lavender shade to blend out your eyelid. The aim is a hint of purple. R89.95 from Dis-Chem.

3. Use Lancôme Stylo Khol Kajal in Prune 04 on your waterline for a softer effect. Black can be harsh sometimes, and this creamy formula glides on so easily and doesn’t transfer. Available at all Lancôme counters for R350.

4. If you’re a fan of the original Flowerbomb, you’ll be happy to know that the notes of Viktor and Rolf’s Flowerbomb EDP Extrême have been intensified, to magnify the sweet, floral opulence of the  fragrance. Notes of Jasmine Sambac evoke sensual pleasure, Osmanthus provides velvetiness and Pure Vanilla Absolute adds lushness. R1715.00 for 50ml.

5. Create a soft and pretty purple day time look with Ombre Hypnôse Eyeshadow Palette in Reflet d’Améthyste from Lancôme. These shadows are so intensely pigmented and can be used ‘wet’ to create a bolder look, if you dare. Watch this fun Lancôme tutorial here. Available from Lancôme counters for R715.00

6. Palladio Velvet Matte Cream Lip Colour in Damask is a velvety liquid lip colour that provides an intense lasting matte finish. Engage in a little bit of lip lovin’ in the form of a lip scrub and a touch of lip balm before you apply this product, making sure that your lips are super smooth and flake-free. The colour that goes on your lips is darker than it looks in the tube and every ‘imperfection’ shows. I would recommend this for lipstick pros as the product can smudge and does feather. I’d also recommend it for darker skinned girls. I’m light skinned and it looks super dramatic and gothic on me, even though I like a bit of goth done right. R109.95 from Dis-Chem.

7. Following the matte trend, Elegant Touch stick-on nails offer you a manicure in a flash with a dramatic matte finish that would be difficult to achieve with a nail polish or gel. When my nails are gel-free and I want a quick fix, these are my go-to nails. In 10 minutes, I literally get the perfect manicure. The box says 3 minutes, but I guess that only if the stick-on nails match your nail shape perfectly. It takes me a bit longer, because I have to file the nails (which are chip-free, so it’s totally safe). I love this ultra luxe shade, Purple Reign. No mess, no stress and no glue… it couldn’t be easier! R79.95 from Dis-Chem.

8. Work the matte lip trend with L’Oréal Infallible Matte Max Lip Colours (R169) in 008 I Gotta Feeling. These new matte lippies are really cool in that they offer a gel-to-powder formula, delivering a soft yet pigmented matte finish via a unique delivery system: you apply them with the sponge applicator and the product is in the lid! They feel like nothing on the lips, and upon first application, literally feel like you’re applying eye shadow to your lips. Even though I love them, I find matte formulas drying, and especially so in winter. Luckily, these layer nicely over lip balm without changing the matte finish, so moisturise away. They give an intense velvety glow of colour, are really easy to wear and have staying power.

9. Whilst I do love a matte lip (as you know by now) I also love a shiny finish. Lancôme’s Rouge in Love Lipstick in Violet Coquette is the perfect berry shade for most skin tones. It has an almost-second skin texture to it – you don’t feel like you’re wearing anything on your lips. It’s the only lipstick I’ve come across that manages to give my lips lip colour and shine for longer than 4 hours. R325 from Lancôme counters.

10. Plum Tuckered Out from the Morgan Taylor Urban Cowgirl range is a gorgeous, deep, rich dark plum creme that is flattering on most skin tones. Around R123 each.

11. In this post, I went through the products that you should get rid of in your 30’s. My view is that as long as you use glitter liner in ‘conservative’ shades like black, brown, eggplant, copper and any metallic really, you can work a little bit of shimmer liner into your makeup routine every so often. For some fun, use Palladio’s Line Out Loud Liner in Amethyst. R89.95 from Dis-Chem.

12. Garnier Mineral Protection 5 Spray (R29.95) has a gorgeous scent and provides 5 in 1 protection for skin and clothes: anti-odour, anti-humidity, anti-irritation, anti-white marks and anti-yellow stains. I like that it doesn’t contained  alcohol or parabens.

By now, dear reader, you will know a few things about me. One of them is that I am on the eternal search for the best mascara. I have had a few beautiful encounters with a few near perfect mascaras, but because there are so many of them out there, find myself drawn to trying new ones all the time. I can’t help it!

The latest mascara to rock my world is Revlon’s Dramatic Definition. Revlon have apparently done away with all their other mascaras and now offer 5 brand new mascaras, all targeting different areas for perfect lashes – definition, volume, length, volume and length and an all-rounder. I have never been a fan of Revlon mascaras and I had a pretty dismal experience with this mascara of theirs but I was super intrigued by the fun looking tubes whilst browsing the cosmetic aisle at Clicks and, given my weakness for mascara, decided to get the one that appealed to me the most. I’m so glad I did.

I love a strong yet natural and defined look and was BLOWN away the very first time I tried Dramatic Definition. It literally made my mascara dreams come true! I could see it separating and defining each lash as the brush combed through, all while adding length and volume. Each brush is specialised for its own unique purpose, and this brush has tiered bristles for defining and separating every lash. I am head over heels in love. Not only does it separate and define (no clumping guaranteed), but the formula is flake free. FLAKE FREE! Do you know how long I have searched for a mascara that is truly, completely, 100% flake-free? For forever! That’s how long. Not only do you not have to wear a primer prior to applying this mascara, you will also never look like a panda bear! The formula is also perfect. It’s not too wet or too dry. As if those two spectacular achievements aren’t enough, there’s the pricing. At only R149, Revlon has neatly presented the mascara trifecta for the taking. It does what it says it’ll do, it is flake- and clump-free and it’s affordable. The packaging is also simple and gorgeous. I love the shape of the tube and how the wand feels in my hand. Moreover, the unique shape helps me to identify what product it is if I’m digging in my handbag while, say, driving. I know, I know. Removal is also a breeze. No hard rubbing required, and it comes off with my pre-cleansing micellar water or oil and then my regular wash-off Ren cleanser. All in all I’m obsessed! Can you tell?

I only tried the purple kind, but I am keen get my hands on the red one (All-in-One) as I’ve heard lots of good things about it. My friend who is a Beauty Editor tells me that the pink one (Ultra Volume) is all kinds of amazing. I will be trying it out when this tube is done.
