Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon is a gorgeous revitalising treatment gel-cream that claims to transform skin overnight by optimising nighttime skin recovery. It contains exotic sounding ingredients like Persian silk tree extract to reduce the sign of skin fatigue, wu-zhu-yu extract to give you a shot of radiance and Australian kakadu plum extract (rich in antioxidant vitamin C) to improve and brighten skin tone. The best part about this cream? Besides promoting great skin it promotes restful sleep (as you might have gathered from the name). It contains motion-activated microcapsules of soothing French lavender essential oil, along with calming sandalwood and patchouli, to soothe the senses with aromatherapy to help promote deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin.

How to use?

Used as the last step in your skincare routine, just smooth it over your face and neck. It can be used as layered over your serum, oil or any concentrate and is okay for use around the eye area. If you need more hydration you can layer it over your normal moisturiser. The beautiful, lavender infused white textured gel-cream will melt into your skin and help hydrate, brighten and revive your skin while you sleep.

The 50 ml container retails for R1295 and you can get about 95 uses from it (roughly three months).

I recently had my eyebrows microbladed and my eyelashes done by Deiana, the amazing resident aesthetician. I’ll be blogging about my microblading experience soon, once they heal. For now, let’s talk lashes.

Lashes are amazing, and I love long ones. I’m sure you do too. It’s amazing what lashes can do for someone’s look. Sadly, I wasn’t gifted with super long lashes, so I use lengthening mascaras and fibres to get some length going. I’ve only ever been for eyelash extensions twice. The first time, I came out looking like Bambi or a Thai lady of the night. Obviously not a good look. The second time, I quite enjoyed them, although they felt a little heavy and the treatment took over two hours! TWO HOURS! I don’t know about you, but I will gladly forego beautiful lashes if I have to suffer through 2 hours of my life to get them. Here is Deiana’s beautiful handiwork …

I have LASHES! Look at how open my eyes are and how lifted my face looks

Just looking at my lashes in the mirror now, I don’t know how I’m ever going to live without them! They’re so beautiful and natural. And the best part? They only took an hour! I think there’s nothing more satisfying than going somewhere and getting EXACTLY what you want, and that’s exactly what I got. The wonderful Deiana listened to what I was saying and she used the thinnest lashes on me to ensure a natural look. I find great value in people that listen to what you say, because I am a stickler for detail.

Described as “the beauty experience everyone’s been waiting for” by Aspasia Karras, on Saturday, I went to the Marie Claire Beauty Playground, a beauty event filled with makeovers, pampering, stylish entertainment and all the best beauty shopping. Apart from expert beauty advice, all guests got fantastic shopping discounts, were entertainment by DJ Half ’n Half, and got to talk about the various products from OPI, L’Oreal, Moroccanoil, Dermalogica, Guinot, Nimue and Inglot (to name a few) with the beauty experts from the relevant houses, all while sipping on a glass or two of bubbly. For those not into bubbly, Happy Me Bubble Tea was there in full force, and Belle’s Patisserie provided some sweet treats. When the event rolls around next year, I would suggest that you grab your girlfriends and go!

Towards the end of winter, around end-July, beginning-August, my skin was terribly dry and my hands were suffering. Did anybody else out there go through the same thing? Normally I don’t use luxury products on my hands, but desperate times call for desperate measures, so I applied some of Dermalogica’s Skin Hydrating Masque to the back of my hands. After 15 minutes, they were soothed and felt much more moisturised. The mask wasn’t designed for hands (although they benefited greatly, so hey,why not?) so let’s talk about the actual intended purpose of the masque…

Winter skin can be quite nasty when it’s super dry, so I was relieved-slash-elated when I received Dermalogica’s Skin Hydrating Masque. It is described by Dermalogia as “A refreshing, moisturising masque to remedy dry, stressed skin. Use after cleansing to help reduce the appearance of fine lines. Unique cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid traps moisture to deliver time-released hydration for lasting suppleness. Help stimulate skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor while lycopene-rich Tomato Seed lipids help restore skin’s protective barrier, enhancing moisture levels for healthier, smoother skin. Formulated without artificial fragrances and colours.”

In an effort to aid my parched profile, I applied the masque to my skin (you can use a fan brush if you want to be fancy, but I just used my fingers). It’s a milky gel like masque that has a pleasant albeit feint scent to it (although it’s fragrance-free) and applies almost effortlessly. The minute you apply it, you feel a nice freshness on your skin. I left it on for a good 20 minutes (the directions say 10-15 minutes, but I wanted it to work hard for me) and am happy to report that upon rinsing my face (which was also very easy), I was treated to smoothe, hydrated, happy skin. I definitley believe in using a moisture mask to boost hydration levels in the drier months, and was very pleased with the results that the Skin Hydrating Masque produced.

 dermalogica face masque

I like it because it’s a no-fuss mask –  after you apply it, it sinks right in in no time at all. Once you are ready to take it off, it comes off with a swipe of either a face cloth or a muslin cloth – no pesky cling-on bits here and there. After the masque you can continue with your normal nighttime skincare ritual and go to sleep knowing that your skin will be happy and hydrated when you wake up. I also like the fact that it didn’t cause any breakouts. It might not be suitable for hydrating for extremely dry skin as it is a light, hydrating mask and doesn’t provide in-depth moisturisation. My skin is dry, although not exceptionally so, and I used this mask three times a week to boost moisture levels. For those of you with dry skin, this is a mask you could possibly use in summer to give you that extra bit of hydration, whilst not causing havoc in the breakout department. The only thing that I’m not mad about is the price – I think R590 is a bit steep for a face mask.
