If you suffer from puffy under eye skin in the morning, your life is about to get a whole lot better. On the days that I wake up with puffy under eyes, every morning, I know they won’t stay like that for long, thanks to Exuviance’s DePuffing Eye Serum

It claims to help decongest, de-puff and tone the eye area for a rested, youthful appearance with visible results in just 4 weeks.

  • The special triple micro-roller applicator gently massages to stimulate circulation and drainage while delivering a depuffing complex of botanical ingredients.
  • A blend of peptides plus a citrus antioxidant in Eyeliss™ and Actiflow® targets microcirculation and helps strengthen skin, reducing the pooling that can lead to puffiness and bags.
  • NeoGlucosamine® helps build the supportive gel cushion for collagen and elastin, to firm and tone both eyelid and under-eye droopiness over time.
  • Caffeine helps stimulate and invigorate the skin.
  • Chamomile, Green Tea and Cucumber refresh the skin, while special micro-fillers soften and smooth the look of fine lines and crow’s feet for an immediate de-aging boost.
  • Ophthalmologist tested.

How did it do?

First up, it’s such a refreshing product to use. I apply it under my eye area and take it up to the area just below my brow bone in a circular, massaging motion. The little balls work to massage your skin, too. The minute I roll this product on, my eye area feels so moisturised and comforted. I’ve noticed that it lifts the skin on the eyelid making my tired eyes look that much more awake, in spite of how tired I might be. My fine lines also look smoother.

It layers beautifully with other products and doesn’t roll off or pull of when you apply your foundation. I’ve also used it at 3pm, over my foundation, for a wakeup, and it sinks in beautifully – no sheen or tackiness in sight. It did roll off when I touched it.

It really does as it says it will – it depuffs and calms my eye area in a few minutes.

The directions say: depress plunger once. Using gentle pressure, roll under each eye from inner corner to outer corner for up to 10 seconds. Repeat under brow bone. Gently smooth in any excess until absorbed. Use twice daily. Can be applied under eye cream or makeup. Initial use: Holding pen with roller ball up, depress plunger several times to start the flow of serum. Just a quick heads up, the first time I used it, I had to push the plunger about 30 times for any product to come out. I thought it was defective, but it just needed some extra care.

Overall, if puffy eyes are getting you, give this worthwhile serum a try. You won’t be sorry.

Hey lovelies, after countless discussions with my girlfriends and family, I know that women are searching for perfection – perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect bodies, not to mention perfect men and perfect jobs. And perfect is a good thing to reach for, just as long as we remember that we’ll never actually reach 100% perfection. Strive for better, not perfection.

When I received Vichy’s ProEVEN range, I was super keen to try it out. I have a few freckles and pigmentation spots that I’m not too thrilled about (perfect skin, remember?).

Vichy ProEVEN caters for women of all ages and ethnicities who suffer from stubborn dark spots and uneven skin tone. It promises to visibly reduce the look of dark spots, brighten skin tone and create a more even complexion, with continuous use.

ProEVEN Brightening Cleansing Foam

This cleanser claims to deeply cleanse and gently exfoliate dead skin cells to reduce the look of dark spots to reveal smoother, newer-looking skin and a brighter, more even and radiant skin tone by way of Ceramide Bright™ and Vitamin C. It’s suitable for sensitive skin, hypoallergenic, paraben-free and Hydroquinone-free.

First up, this cleanser is super concentrated so you need the tiniest amount to get a delicious foam going. Because foam cleansers usually dry me out, I prefer cleansing oils, but not with this one. It never leaves me feeling tight. It does leave me feeling squeaky clean, in the best way. The scent is also heavenly and I love the fact that it provides a gentle daily exfoliation. I look forward to using it every morning and evening.

Available for a RRSP of R230. Find out more about it here

ProEVEN Advanced Daily Dark Spot Corrector

The Daily Dark Spot Corrector promises to instantly brighten skin tone and visibly reduce the number, size and intensity of dark spots in 8 weeks. It does this by way of a gentle exfoliation and contains soothing and fortifying Vichy Thermal Spa Water. It has been tested on sensitive skin under dermatological control, suitable for all skin types and tested on multi ethnicities, non-comedogenic and paraben-free.

This product is like a thick white milk and smells incredible, like gentle flowers. The texture is silky smooth and makes my skin feel insanely smooth, supple and moisturised. There’s no need for any other moisturiser on top of this one.

Available from Clicks, DisChem and some Foschini stores for a RRSP of R409. If you’re interested in reading more about it, go here.

I’ve been using this spot correcting duo for 8 weeks now. For the first 4 weeks I used it every morning and evening, and saw a noticeable difference in my skin in terms of radiance and brightness, but didn’t notice any of my dark spots lightening. The next 4 weeks I amped it up by using my Skinceuticals Retinol and saw better results – some of my dark spots were a little lighter. If you’re serious about pigmentation, I would supplement this range with a good retinol.

All in all, I’m loving this range. It’s cost-effective and it smells great. Again, for maximum efficacy I would supplement with a good retinol.

I love it when a cosmetic company nails a product! Let’s be real – no company does everything brilliantly. Said company is Maybelline, and I’m currently completely obsessed with their new Master Strobing Sticks.

Which shade for you?

There are 3 shades – Light (Iridescent), Medium (Nude Glow) and Dark (Gold), for each respective skin tone. Even though the Medium is too dark to highlight my cheekbones, it works so well as a contour on my hairline, giving me a nice dewy finish. My friend, who has a yellow toned, tanned skin looks amazing when she uses the Medium on her cheekbones and collarbones. She even uses the gold on her shins to give her legs a gorgeous glow.

Why I love them so much?

The texture. Besides being as smooth as butter, the texture is incredibly light and isn’t sticky in the least – it feels like you’re not wearing anything on your skin. The formula is brilliant in that it doesn’t emphasise any skin texture such as fine lines or pores. It gives you the most incredibly natural and beautiful glow – no sparkle in sight. You can go in lightly and blend, blend, blend for a natural all-over glow, or layer up for more of an intense strobe effect.

Application. What could be easier than removing the lid and drawing onto your skin? The sticks are super creamy and so easy to blend, basically a dream to use.

The colours. The 3 shades are perfectly suited for dark, medium and light skin tones, and you can easily find one that would suit yours.

The price. The best part is how affordable they are. At around R160, you get a top notch product that rivals other higher end highlighters.

Packaging. The stick is so convenient, and fits anywhere, even in the tiniest of clutch bags.

The only thing I don’t love is that they don’t last too long. In saying that, just like lip gloss versus a matte lipstick, obviously the drier the formula, the more staying power it has. I don’t want ashy, shiny cheeks, so I will gladly put up with reapplying. Besides, the compact size is perfect to throw in your handbag.

Should you try it?

Absolutely! This Strobing Stick is my new best friend. She makes me look dewy, fresh, awake and radiant. And she’s priced so well!

Ever since Caroline Hirons mentioned them in her Top 5 Acid Toners, I have been eager to try out NeoStrata’s Smooth Surface Daily Peel Pads. I was so amped when I received the launch invite, and couldn’t wait to try them and report back to you guys.

What exactly is it?

It’s a daily home use peel, formulated to enhance skin clarity and texture while visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How do you use them?

The pads and liquid come separately and all you need to do is pour the liquid into the tub and your pads are soaked and ready to go. (This is fab because some other pre-soaked pads tend to dry up, which means that you’re excited to use them and then – nothing. It’s like when you leave your face wipes open and they all dry out. All you’re left with is prettily scented tissues). If you’re new to acids, you could start by using them 2-3 times a week after you’ve washed your face and about to start your night time skincare routine. As for more mature skins and those of you who are used to acids, you could use them nightly.

Who is it for?

All skins but particularly oily/acne and sun-damaged, mature and/or dull skins.

How do they work?

Glycolic Acid exfoliates and increases cell turnover to clarify pores, refine skin texture and improve skin tone. NeoStrata’s patented ingredient, Aminofil, works to build skin’s natural volume and visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As a result, skin looks fresher, healthier-looking with smoother texture and more even tone.

This at-home peel doesn’t require any rinsing or neutralising. After swiping the cotton pad all over your face, your skin is perfectly primed for your favourite serum or moisturiser.

What I loved about them

Sometimes I forget to exfoliate my skin, and sometimes I’m not in the mood. No fret, because all I need to do is unscrew the tub, and grab a little miracle pad to do it for me. They’re so easy and convenient to use and they get rid of any rough skin or random spot I may have. My serum sinks in and penetrates better after using them (any acid-containing product will help to prep your skin for your skincare routine). My skin texture is smoother, a little plumper and has a beautiful glow to it.

What I love about NeoStrata’s version of an acid toner is that they’ve added an extra benefit in the form of Aminofil to help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They are a higher end brand and are focused specifically on physician grade antiaging skincare. With that in mind, their pricing is higher than department store brands.

Available here and here for around R800.

Metallic silver, gold and copper tones are all the rage right now and will keep on going strong all spring/summer long. In honour of this pretty metallic trend, I did a beauty snoop and rounded up some beautiful eye makeup products to review. Witness the fitness right here…

These neutral shadows are a limited edition and come in a solid white palette decorated with gold stars. While the packaging is pretty, the casing isn’t the easiest to open. The case has a big, beautiful mirror, which I love because sometimes palettes are super stingy, giving you only a small strip of mirror. Inside, there are 8 colours, a great mix of browns, nudes and golds. The shadows are smooth, creamy and nicely pigmented and the colour payoff is great. Over an eyeshadow primer, they really pop and last nicely – from morning until early evening. Not all the shadows are the same though, with some of them being a bit chalky and not the easiest  to apply, coming off patchy and uneven. I feel like the palette is missing a light medium matte brown eye shadow for use as a transition shade. The applicator is nothing special, with both sides being the standard sponge applicator. I wish they would have made one end a brush because I don’t use the applicator at all. If you’re interested in this palette, swatch the shades on your hand before to see if you like the texture of the eye shadows. Around R150, available from Dis Chem.

catrice blaze of glory

In a previous post about what products to get rid of in your 30’s, I mentioned glitter eyeliner. While that still stands, I’m not averse to a chic hint of metallic liner. This gold liquid liner from Catrice is the perfect accompaniment to a heavy smoky eye, a simple winged liner look or to glam up your ordinary eyeshadow for a fabulous event. The applicator brush is a very thin and is good for applying a thin line of gold to your look. If you don’t have a steady hand, the pressure squishes the brush tip from being skinny to thick and your line ends up quite uneven. It’s a beautiful shade of gold (it looks slightly more green in the tube but goes on gold) and it brightens up my makeup when I wear it. Whenever I wear it I catch people looking at my eyes to figure out what’s going on. With this liner, I can have totally different look and for around R55, it’s an affordable way to add a little but of fun and glamour to your makeup looks.

Catrice_Liquid liner C01 Golden Grace

The first time I saw this on a fellow blogger, I went mad. She looked so good and I decided I had to have it. While I prefer more of an understated, matte makeup look for every day, this is SO beautiful for adding a hit of rose gold to your look. I specifically love to use this pencil for a smoky rose gold eye and bubblegum pink lips. I think it would also work well with a gorgeous red lip. The product is dual ended, with a deep brown kohl kajal liner on one side and a rose gold shimmer cream shadow on the other. Both ends are incredibly soft and this makes them easy to blend. Having said that, it’s quite easy to smoosh the tips, so go in with a light hand. Once you’ve applied and blended the cream shadow, it sets firmly in place thanks to the waterproof formula. It doesn’t smudge or migrate and is so long-wearing. The liner also sets, but comes off a lot more easily. Both ends are so highly pigmented and the rose gold shade is just sooooo beautiful. For around R95 (available from ClicksFoschini and even Takealot) these are simply amazing!

First up, this palette reminds me on my beloved Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. I am obsessed with rose gold and I love anything that resembles the pretty rosy metallic. The L.A. Girl Nudes palette is a dead ringer for the Urban Decay Naked  palettes and is even packaged similarly. The 12 rose gold inspired shadows (3 matte, 9 shimmer) come in a sturdy cardboard palette with a small strip of mirror. The applicator has a brush at the one end and a sponge applicator tip at the other, which is fairly useful. I love the fact that there is a nude matte and two matte browns – one light witha hint of pink and the other light-medium. They are perfect for my skin tone and I love using them as transition and/or lid colours. I love a good mix of satin/shimmer and matte, and I feel like L.A. Girl made the right shades matte. I do kinda wish that there were more matte shades on offer, but I’m too mesmerized by the beautiful rose gold shades to care. The shadows last all day (over my MAC Painterly Paint Pot) and are just beautiful. Available from Dis-Chem for only R69. This price point is so amazing, and if you aren’t prepared to drop R650 on a Naked 3 palette, you can get your rose gold fix from this palette. I love.

Are you loving these pretty makeup colours as much as I am?
