Stila Matte n Metal & Glam Glow Pout Mud

Glam Glow Pout Mud

I’ve just returned from a 3 week cruise around the Mediterranean. Before I left, I went through a weird frenzy where I wanted to buy ALL the lip products for my trip (never mind that I have about 62 lip glosses/balms/oil). When I travel, I like to dial down my makeup routine and didn’t want to use the normal lip glosses I use for work – I was looking for something low key that I could just slap on, without looking too ‘done’. I found Glam Glow’s Pout Mud (Love Scene) at Woolies one day while I was browsing for a new fragrance.

Glam Glow says their Pout Muds give you sexy hydrated lips. And I can’t argue with that. The Moroccan Mint scented lip treatment left me with tingly, smooth, shiny, soft, hydrated & restored lips.

Pout Mud pots are formulated with a cocktail of lip nourishing ingredients like Sweet Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter, Murumuru Butter, Shea Butter, Castor oil, Jojoba seed oil and beeswax

I love the packaging! Although a little cumbersome, the pot is easy to identify in your bag because of the shape, and the silver, snitch-like looking ball is cool. The only thing I didn’t like is that you have to open the pot and stick your finger in the actual balm. It’s not the worst, it’s just not the best. For every day use, I find the colour payoff too light, but I would definitely repurchase for travel. It’s ideal for when you want a little somethin’ somethin’, but not too much.

These cuties are available from Woolies for around R295.

Stila Matte ‘N Metal Eyeshadow Palette

As I mentioned above, before I went on the cruise, I went on a “I must replace most things in my makeup bag” mission. It was really quite a lot of fun, because how many times do we get to do that? We usually stick to the same products, and just replace the old ones when they run out. I wanted to get a new eyeshadow palette (because 4 neutral matte & shimmer palettes aren’t enough), and the Stila Matte ‘N Metal palette caught my eye. It has just the right mix of matte and shimmer shades in gorgeous colours like pink rose golds, cool-toned pewters and golden bronzes. I was a bit hesitant to part with R795 when I already have lot of similar shadows, and I read mixed reviews about why you don’t really need this palette in your life. But I’m so glad I got it. The packaging is luxe and pretty on the eye, it’s relatively smaller than the Naked palettes, travels better (even though I had to make sure it was cradled in my makeup bag so that if the luggage people got rowdy with my bags, no harm would come to my precious palette) and offers all the beautiful colours you need. You can easily create casual day time eyes as well as smouldering smokey looks. I say all the colours, but I think I need to say almost all the colours. The only colour I found myself reaching for was a light medium transition shade, but luckily my bronzer managed to double as that. I also like that it has a mixture of cool and warm toned shades.

All in all, I love this palette. If you want a neutral palette, but aren’t big into makeup, I think this palette would suit all your eyeshadow needs.

Do you change your makeup when you travel?
