Maybelline Diamond Glow Eye Shadows

Hi Lovelies, I hope you are all well and warm on this winter’s day! Today, let’s talk about eye shadow. Specifically Maybelline’s Diamond Glow by Eye Studio in Purple Drama and Coral Drama.

“Featuring an exclusive technology with gem-like sparkles, Maybelline Diamond Glow eye shadow gives your eyes a beautiful glow. Easy to apply, you can accomplish the sparkling diamond effect in 4 simple steps!”

There are 6 variants in this range, but I’m only going to talk about 2.

Purple Drama and Coral Drama

Maybelline Diamond Glow in 01 Purple Drama and 02 Coral Drama

01 Purple Drama is a quad containing an almost white shimmer, a light pink sparkle shimmer, a metallic lilac sparkle shimmer and a dark, dusky purple shimmer. The name Diamond Glow suggests that it’s going to involve some sort of dazzle, shimmer or glimmer and I found this palette to be especially sparkly. If you don’t like sparkle, then this isn’t for you. Because I like a balance of shimmery and matte shadows, when I use this palette, I mix it with some some of my rose gold matte shadows from the Naked 3 palette. The colour payoff of the light pink sparkle and metallic lilac sparkle shimmer isn’t too great, and unless you use a primer, the colours don’t come out great.

02 Coral Drama is a bronzey quad comprising of a pale gold shimmer, a darker yellow gold shimmer, a coral copper shimmer and a dark brown copper shimmer. These colours are gorgeous and remind me of summer! In contrast to the Purple Drama palette, these eye shadows are creamy and intensely pigmented and don’t appear too sparkly or glittery (except for the pale gold shimmer). I wouldn’t use all the colours of Coral Drama at the same time to create a look, because the eye shadows are still all shimmery, and would go in with a medium matte brown to bring in some  balance.

Overall I think the palettes are a good way of wearing eye shadow if you aren’t keen on buying a 12 shadow palette, or you’re a newbie to eye shadows. What I do like about these palettes is that all the colours are meant to be worn together, and the colours compliment each other.  I hate buying a palette only to end up with 2 or 3 colours that you can’t do anything with.
