About 3 weeks ago I went to get my hair did at Carlton Hyde Park. I had heard wonderful things about David Gilson and his expertise, so felt that it was necessary to book in with such a colour professional. I heard about babylights for the first time during a hair trend talk with David, and decided that I wanted to try it. Babylights (a new hair colour technique) are natural-looking highlights that mimic the sun-kissed tones your hair had as a child. In essence, babylights are very fine highlights to mimic subtle, dimensional child-like hair colour.
David mixed the colour and chatted to Boyd (head stylist) about my babylights, and just like that, they were being applied! Have you ever been to Carlton Hyde Park? It is the most glamorous ‘production line’ I have ever seen. There is a section where colourists are busy tinting hair, a section for blowdrying and a section for styling. You can even have your nails done while you wait for your colour to develop! I love this concept, because if you’re on a tight schedule, you can beautify in an instant. I also had a moisture treatment done on the most elaborate dentist’s chair with products that smelled like a heady Tom Ford fragrance. Tom Ford-like smelling hair is a wonderful thing to have all day. I couldn’t stop smelling it! Once my hair was moisturised and happy, David blow dried my hair and I left feeling like a million bucks.
The babylights have lifted my hair colour by a shade

One of the perks of babylights is avoiding the schlep of traditional hair colour like the growing-out process. Since the shading is so subtle, babylights fade naturally into hair. Babylights are wonderful if you’re looking to get rid of your ombre (like me). Remember that any time you lighten hair, you need to add moisture. Use a hydrating shampoo and a moisture mask once a week.
If you’re wanting a slight change but don’t want to commit to anything major, babylights is the way to go. Call Carlton Hyde Park on 011 325 4998.
