For this review, I was torn between the current title and ‘Chinese Food for Your Face’. Obviously the former would appeal to most people (barring Amanda) (not her real name) because who wants Chinese food on their face? To me, this serum smells like Chinese food (because of the ginger root) but not in a gross way. No one else has mentioned that it smells like ginger honey chicken and noodles, so maybe it’s just my ever so keen olfactory system. On with the review!
Today we’re talking about Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate, which is basically the daytime version of the ever popular and much loved Midnight Recovery Serum. Big shoes to fill, right?
You’ll be happy to learn that this is not a problem for this newbie because it delivers. Designed to protect skin from external aggressors, this serum improves skin tone and hydrates the skin, as well as fighting off fatigue. I can’t say much for the fighting off fatigue bit, but I can tell you that it’s a winner when it comes to facial oils. It makes my skin feel soft, and gives me a glow. I’m always skeptical about new products and their potential to cause breakouts, but I can assure you that this oil caused nothing of the sort. Glowing, beautiful skin aside.
Don’t let the fact this is a day oil put you off or lead you to think that your face will turn into an oil slick, because it won’t. The formula is super lightweight and takes about 3 minutes to absorb fully, after which you can apply your regular moisturiser. My go to at the moment is this. Once you apply your makeup, you have a pretty glow, courtesy of this serum. And if you’re a fan of the dewy look, mix it with your foundation. I love that you can use this product in more than one way (let’s hear it for multi-tasking beauty products!). The magical ingredients include tamanu oil to hydrate, sunflower seed oil to smooth and ginger root, which is an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant.
I think this serum is the one for you if you are looking at adding a little bit of moisture to your day time routine, and if you love layering products. Give it a whirl, I’m sure you’ll love it!
Available at all Kiehl’s stores for the RRSP of R700 for 30ml. If you use it sparingly (you only need 3-4 drops), a bottle should last you a long time!
