By now you’ve heard about Drunk Elephant’s T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial. It’s been popping up on Instagram, the beauty pages of all the best magazines and beauty bloggers have been giving it some serious airtime.

Obviously when everyone is going mad for something, your curiosity is piqued and you feel like you have a serious case of FOMO if you can’t check it out. Lucky for me, I knew someone coming in from the States, and managed to get my hands on a bottle (which I got from Sephora – although, very frustratingly, couldn’t manage to purchase online so he had to go in store to get it).

Let’s get straight to it

Formulated with 25% AHAs (glycolic, tartaric, lactic, and citric acids) and 2% BHAs (salicylic acid) to slough off dead skin cells and help refine the texture of your skin, Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial is also made with antioxidant-packed ingredients like soothing matcha tea, vitamin C–spiked apple, and redness-fighting niacinamide to brighten and help fight off free radicals.
I have very dry, and slightly sensitive skin. When I first tried this mask, it stung like mad – it felt like small elastic bands shooting me in the face. But, being the product sadist that I am (when it makes me uncomfortable, I know it’s working) I just smiled through it. It lasted for about a minute and then cooled to a slight tingle. After 20 minutes, as per the instructions, I washed it off to amazing, baby-like skin. My skin looked so smooth my mom immediately, very enthusiastically commented how glow-y and beautiful my skin looked! It looked like I had just had a facial – they don’t call it Babyfacial for nothing! For the next few days, my skin felt smooth to the touch, and also started to peel.
The bottom line is that it’s one of my favourite masks and worth every cent and the effort required to get it here. It absolutely lives up to the hype. It’s basically an at-home peel and it addresses skin texture and tone, it exfoliates and removes dead skin, takes away dullness, evens out skin tone, cleans pores and helps with pigmentation and fine lines.
I love the packaging, the name, the concept, the colours the various products come in and how founder, Tiffany Masterson wanted something that didn’t exist so she made it herself.
P.S. You shouldn’t use it more than twice a week (I only usually use it once a week) and don’t use any other AHA/BHA or retinol products on the same day.

Hey lovelies,

I decided to take a break from blogging to refocus and refresh. I knew I wanted a little change but I didn’t know what that was going to be. I sat with it for a few months and it came to me! Besides being obsessed with serums, facial masks and pretty lipsticks, I am most passionate about anti-ageing. I also love empowering others. We could all do with a little more love. Ad who better to give it to us then ourselves? And so, the focus of my blog has been sharpened into anti-ageing and self-love. This is what I know most about, so this is what I will be sharing. I hope you enjoy the ride.

I’ve never been exposed to French brand, Filorga but I am happy to say that it’s is one of the best brands I’ve tried in 2018.

I was recently sent a peeling lotion as well as a dreamy face cream, and I am loving both. Here are my thoughts on the brand so far…

Filorga Re-Oxygenating Micro-Peeling Lotion

Chemical exfoliators are my favourite kind of exfoliators because you don’t have to spend time physically scrubbing to get smooth, clear skin. Exfoliating is vital for getting rid of dull and dead skin. When I’m busy and the week runs away from me and I forget, I can see an immediate difference.

I’m a sucker for a good smelling product, and this Re-Oxygenating Micro-Peeling Lotion is divine! It engulfs your senses in its heavenly floral scent. The plastic bottle that houses the liquid is the ultimate in packaging. It dispenses liquid like salon acetone pump bottles, ensuring there is no wastage and screwing off or on of lids. Place your cotton wool pad over the pump and push down either 1 or 2 times. Swipe over your face and et voila! My skin always tingles after application. I only ever use it at night, followed by a moisturiser. If I want a double whammy, I use Kiehl’s Overnight Peel and come the morning, my skin is positively glowing!

This cocktail includes 6 acids at 6% that gently exfoliate and refresh the skin. Glycolic acid to reduce wrinkles, Phytic acid to tackle dark spots, Citric acid for a more even complexion, Salicylic acid to help reduce pores, Mandelic acid for radiance and Gluconolactone, to provide a gentle resurfacing effect. It also contains pure Hyaluronic acid which boosts the synthesis of hyaluronic acid providing skin hydration and an intense plumping action, NCTF – a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, co-enzymes and antioxidants to regenerate the cells for a revitalising effect as well as polysaccharides that stimulate the synthesis of  Cytoglobin which helps to oxygenate and regenerate cells.

I know it’s easy to promote products when you’re being sent them (and you don’t have to fork out your own cash for them) but this bottle lasts really long and is worth it! If you’re new to acid toners, I would say this is a perfect place to start, as it has a low acid content. If you’re an acid toner junkie, give this bad boy a try.

R520 for 150ml available from Edgars, Red Square, Takealot or at a discount here.

Filorga Lift-Structure Day Cream

This day cream is an anti-ageing day cream and claims to firm the look of skin, performing a lifting effect to help redefine the appearance of facial features. Formulated with active ingredients derived from aesthetic procedures, the ultra-lifting moisturiser delivers visible lifting and smoothing action to help re-contour the look of skin, while Plasmatic Lifting Factors® (comprising Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid) work to tighten and plump the appearance of features. With intensive firming properties, it contains a duo of botanical active ingredients to help restore tone and firmness back into the neck and cheekbones.

I generally don’t like face creams – I think they’re boring. I prefer serums, facial oils and gels. But this cream, I actually love. I’m pretty sure that it hasn’t lifted my skin (does it contain ingredients with anti-gravity properties?) but my skin looks plump and hydrated, and feels refreshed and soft. It’s the softest cream I’ve ever used and I love applying it to my skin. My skin loves it and soaks it up. The cream gives an instantly dewy feel and over days my skin looks soothed and a little plumper. It’s genuinely fantastic.

Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon is a gorgeous revitalising treatment gel-cream that claims to transform skin overnight by optimising nighttime skin recovery. It contains exotic sounding ingredients like Persian silk tree extract to reduce the sign of skin fatigue, wu-zhu-yu extract to give you a shot of radiance and Australian kakadu plum extract (rich in antioxidant vitamin C) to improve and brighten skin tone. The best part about this cream? Besides promoting great skin it promotes restful sleep (as you might have gathered from the name). It contains motion-activated microcapsules of soothing French lavender essential oil, along with calming sandalwood and patchouli, to soothe the senses with aromatherapy to help promote deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin.

How to use?

Used as the last step in your skincare routine, just smooth it over your face and neck. It can be used as layered over your serum, oil or any concentrate and is okay for use around the eye area. If you need more hydration you can layer it over your normal moisturiser. The beautiful, lavender infused white textured gel-cream will melt into your skin and help hydrate, brighten and revive your skin while you sleep.

The 50 ml container retails for R1295 and you can get about 95 uses from it (roughly three months).

The new kid in town from Skinceuticals is their Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier Serum. It’s a beautiful, hydrating serum containing the star ingredient hyaluronic acid, but is different from their other star product, Hydrating B5 Gel.

SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier Serum

This multifunctional corrective serum helps amplify the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid levels by 30%, containing a  concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, plus proxylane, licorice root and purple rice extract. These bad boys (which are actually very, very good boys) help deliver surface hydration to skin and help to improve smoothness, firmness and plumpness. Ideal for all skin types, this paraben-free and dye-free serum-gel also reduces the look of crow’s feet, nasolabial folds (smile or laugh lines) and marionette lines (the lines that run down from the corners of the mouth ). H.A. Intensifier is also perfect for extending the longevity of injectable hyaluronic acid fillers.

Both the H.A. Intensifier and Hydrating B5 Gel contain Hyaluronic Acid, but they are different. H.A. Intensifier is a corrective serum that works to increase the skin’s own hyaluronic acid levels by stimulating hyaluronic acid synthesis, prompting your skin to make more of its own, preserving the existing hyaluronic acid and hydrating instantly. Hydrating B5 Gel is a moisturizer. It combines vitamin B5 with Hyaluronic Acid to strengthen the skin’s barrier and bind moisture to the skin. This oil-free serum will boost and enhance the effects of your daily moisturizer.

My thoughts

I use this in the morning after my CE Ferulic serum. It has a lovely berry colour to it, but doesn’t look purple when you apply it. It’s super lightweight and is absorbed quickly, but still provides intense hydration – my dry areas feel and look so much better. It’s so important that your skin stays hydrated during the day, otherwise your foundation fades in irregular patches. This gel serum ensures my skin stays nicely moisturised all day long.

The Hydrating B5 Gel is recommended for all skin types and those with sensitive, dehydrated and acne-prone skin and can be used alone or with your daily moisturizer for extra hydration. H.A. Intensifier is recommended for all skin types and dehydrated or ageing skin types to help improve the skin’s firmness, elasticity and plumpness.

If you’re new to the world of Skinceuticals and you’ve heard good things about either their Hydrating B5 Gel or their H.A. Intensifier, I’d say try either. If you’re extremely dehydrated, start with the H.A Intensifier and move on to the B5 Gel after your bottle has finished. Otherwise, go straight to B5 Hydrating heaven – I’m obsessed.
